The Stuthoff concentration camp was completed in 1939 by the German Nazi regime. Within six years, over 110,00 people were imprisoned until its liberation began in 1945. Upon the Nazi evacuation of the camp in 1945, the remaining 25,000 were forced into a final "death march' before the Nazi surrender. Approximately 100 survivors were eventually rescued. Stuthoff is located in the north of Poland, approximately 30 km east of Gdansk.
